ABSCBN News - Donaires foe replaced after failing eye exam

ABS-CBN News reported that Donaire's foe was replaced because Gerson Guerrero of Mexico did not passed the eye examination in the Las Vegas. Guerrero failed the examination because of certain retina issue.

Meanwhile, the fight of Donaire will continue with his new challenger, Mexican Manuel Vargas of Mexico as well.

Gorres to watch Pinoy Power III for his support

Z "The Dream" Gorrez was supposedly one of the Filipino boxer who will fight on the upcoming Pinoy Power 3 in Las Vegas but due to unexpected happenings on his last fight he was comatose. Mostly of the news portal has reportedly that he will be at the ringside to watch and give his full support to the Filipino boxers.

“Nalulungkot ako na hindi na ako maka-boxing… dahil bata pa ako, boxing na ako,” he told ABS-CBN Correspondent Dyan Castillejo.

Gorres is recovering from 2 major brain surgeries in Las Vegas, said he will especially cheer on Ciso Morales, the fighter who replaced him in the world title fight against Mexican Fernando Montiel.

Morales, for his part, said he hopes to show Montiel’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight belt to Gorres after the fight.

“‘Pag may suwerte, yayakap ako sa kanya... ‘Pag hindi naman, yayakapin ko pa rin siya,” noted Morales. He said he hopes to defeat his Mexican opponent with uppercuts and hooks.

Gorres then addressed Morales, Nonito Donaire, Jr., Mark Melligen, Bernabe Concepcion and Gerry Peñalosa: “Good luck nalang sa inyo sana pagbutihan niyo para maiwagayway ang bandila ng Pilipinas.”

World Boxing Association (WBA) interim super flyweight champion Donaire will defend his title against Manuel Vargas of Mexico. Vargas replaced fellow Mexican Gerson Guerrero, who failed his eye exam because of a detached retina.

Peñalosa will fight Puerto Rican Eric Morel while Concepcion will clash with Mario Santiago of Puerto Rico. Melligen will face Raymond Gatica in the undercard.

Pinoy Power 3 will be aired live on ABS-CBN on Sunday, February 14 at 10:30 a.m. Replays will be shown on the same day on Studio 23 at 8 p.m. and ABS-CBN’s “Sunday’s Best” at 10:30 p.m. Pinoy Power 3 replays will also be shown on February 16 at 4 p.m. and February 18 at 9 p.m. on SkyCable TV’s Balls Channel.

Latin Fury 13 & Pinoy Power 3 Boxing Match

"Latin Fury 13 / Pinoy Power 3" is an upcoming special boxing edition in celebration of the history of professional boxing and Las Vegas casinos marriage. The first professional boxing card ever held at Las Vegas casino is about forty years ago on December 6, 1969 was presented by the Las Vegas Hilton (known today as The International), the event by former world champion Sonny Liston and featuring 20-year-old George Foreman. Nine years after, Top Rank promoted the first world championship fight to ever take place in a Las Vegas casino venue, also at the Las Vegas Hilton, where Leon Spinks upset heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali on February 15, 1978.


Nearly thirty-two years later to the present, Top Rank and the Las Vegas Hilton are going back to the future with a world championship doubleheader, on Saturday, February 13, featuring former world champions and current top contenders Eric “Little Hands Of Stone” Morel and Gerry “Fearless” Peñalosa, battling in a WBO bantamweight title elimination bout; two-division world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire defending his WBA interim super flyweight title against knockout artist Gerson “El Nene” Guerrero; WBO bantamweight champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel defending his crown against wunderkind Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales; and world title challengers Mario Santiago and Bernabe Concepcion battling in a 10-round featherweight rumble.

Latin Fury 13 / Pinoy Power 3,” produced and distributed Live on Pay-Per-View by Top Rank, in association with PR Best Boxing, ABS-CBN and the Las Vegas Hilton, will take place Saturday, February 13, 2010 (Saturday, February 14 in Philippines), at the Las Vegas Hilton. The four-bout pay-per-view broadcast will begin at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
